Shady Gators Co-Ed Sand Volleyball League

One of the highlights of summer is grabbing your favorite swimwear, sunscreen and sunglasses to hit the beach. The only thing better than hitting the water is getting to play sand volleyball with your greatest Gator friends! At Shady Gators, we have our sand volleyball courts at the Lake of the Ozarks ready to play, and we know you're ready to get out here in the sun and show off your moves. There are a few things you need to know before getting started, though. Here are some fun facts about volleyball, as well as the rules you need to know before playing in the Gator League.

7 Fun Facts About Volleyball

1. The game of volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan.
2. The first World Championships were held in 1949 for men and 1952 for women.
3. Volleyball was first introduced as Olympic sports in 1964.
4. Most volleyball players jump about 300 times a match.
5. The first two-man beach game was played in 1930.Volleyball is the second most popular sport in the world today, exceeded only by soccer.
6. The longest recorded volleyball game was in Kingston, North Carolina. It took 75 hours and 30 minutes.
7. Volleyball was called mintonette at first but it was later changed to volleyball.

How to Sign Up

We've made signing up extremely easy for you and your pals. You can download the application on our website: www.ShadyGators.com. You'll need to designate a team captain for this event, and they will get the application signed, and the registration paid for. You can mail the signed application to PO Box 1355, Osage Beach, MO 65065. Make your checks payable to Shady Gators. You have until May 14th to get your application submitted.

When and Where

The games will start up on May 31st and will run until July 7th. You can choose between a Tuesday night and a Thursday night league. If you want to play both nights you'll need to submit two registrations fees with your application. All games will be played at Shady Gators Sand Volleyball courts.

Rules and Regs

Your team may consist of eight players: one team captain and seven players. ALL players must be 18 years of age or older to play, and you must have an equal number of males and females on the court during game time. 

Your Team Name

One of the most important parts of playing sandy volleyball at Shady Gators is that you HAVE to have a team name, and you'll want it to be creative too! Here are some fun ideas you can consider when choosing your team name.
