Tequila Thursday!

Is tequila Thursday a thing? Well, it is now! In just a few short days, Lazy Gators will be opening for the season - and do you want to know why we're excited?? TEQUILA! Shout it from the rooftops, because Lazy Gators is going to have the best tequila at the Lake of the Ozarks, among other things. Have you seen our tequila menu yet? Do you know the difference between tequila varieties? We want you to have the skinny on the drink you love so much - so here are all of the juicy details.

Tequila!

This sweet and spunky beverage that we all love is made from the blue agave plant. A pure tequila is made solely from the agave plant, and it goes straight to the fermentation process. While mixto tequila is not 100% agave and must first be mixed with sugar or molasses before it starts the fermentation process. Depending on the process that is used, the tequila will become one of five types:

Gold Tequila

Gold tequila gets it's name from the caramel coloring. While most gold tequilas are not typically aged, and usually only contain about 51% agave, sometimes it can contain 100% agave by combining silver tequila and an aged tequila like reposado or aƱejo.

Silver Tequila (AKA Blanco)

Silver tequila also goes by Blanco and is rarely aged for more than a couple of weeks. This makes it the purest form of tequila. It's also considered one of the best types of tequila to use in mixed drinks, and is commonly seen in margaritas. Check out our menu below - we have several drinks that feature Blanco Tequila.

Reposado

This means "rested" in Spanish. Your reposado tequila will rest anywhere from two months to a year before it is bottled. Reposados take on the gold hue from the barrels that they are aged in, whihc is typically oak or white oak barrels, and the type of barrel changes the flavor of each distillery's tequila.

AƱejo

AƱejo tequilas are aged from one to three years and it is considered the BEST type of tequila for sipping because of the smooth flavor. Anejo means "vintage," and it is darker than reposado tequila.
