Cajun Food is Our Specialty!
You don't have to go down south to get delicious comfort food. Shady Gators has you covered with Cajun food at the Lake of the Ozarks! Whether you're looking for some Jambalaya or Gumbo, our Lake of the Ozarks waterfront restaurant has several dishes to curb your cravings!
The word "Cajun" originates from the term "les Acadians," which was used to describe French colonists who settled in the Acadia region of Canada. During the Great Upheaval, the Acadians were forcibly removed from their homes and eventually settled in the swampy region of Louisianna that is known today as Acadiana. The Acadians were extremely resourceful, combining the flatlands, bayous and wild game of South Louisiana with its proximity to the Gulf of Mexico to create a truly unique local cuisine. Cajun food is known for being well seasoned, not to be mistaken as spicy. Most dishes begin with a medley of vegetables and typically utilize onion, celery and bell pepper to provide a flavor base. Garlic, paprika, thyme, file, parsley, green onions and much more are also very common ingredients in Cajun cooking.
All of our Cajun dishes are served with a side salad and cornbread. Try one of these delicious menu items next time you're here!
Chicken Gumbo
We start with a thick brown roux, fresh vegetables, chicken and andouille sausage served over white rice.
Jambalaya
An authentic spicy Cajun feast. It's a mixture of chicken, shrimp, andouille sausage and tomato filets slow cooked to perfection.
Crawfish Etouffe
Sweet crawfish tail meat simmered in a dark rich roux with a dash of this and that.
Red Beans & Rice
A traditional Monday dish in Cajun country slow cooked with smoked ham hocks.
Crawfish Cardonnel
Sweet crawfish meat sauteed with vegetables and tomatoes in a rich cream sauce.
Menage Au Trios
For those who can't make up their mind, we give you a helping of jambalaya, red beans and rice, and choice of gumbo, etouffe or Cardonnel.
